Mostly dark Smoky Amethyst hues. Very Brandberg-like. Featuring various combinations of skeletal / elestial multi herkimers, rainbows, inclusions, and even some sceptre forms. From Chiredzi, Zimbabwe. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 2-3cm. Weight approx 5-10g. You will receive one point.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Amethyst is the name for purple to violet Quartz crystal. Its name is derived from the Greek ‘amethystos’, loosely meaning ‘not drunk’. The name relates to the ancient belief that this stone could protect its wearer from intoxication.

It owes its colour to trace amounts of iron in the Quartz crystal lattice. When the Quartz is exposed to gamma irradiation (from naturally decaying radioactive minerals in the earth), the iron atoms are transformed, resulting in the colour change from clear Quartz crystal to purple Amethyst.

 

Chiredzi crystals are named after the town of Chiredzi where they were first discovered in 2017. Previous deposits found were called ‘Shangaan Amethyst’ by a USA shop, the names are used synonymously. Chiredzi crystals are complex Quartz crystals, which look very much like Brandbergs.
