Lovely blue crystal gallet. Gallets are also sometimes called palm stones. These Apatite gallets are individually selected from the best material and then hand-polished to perfection. From Madagascar. Good to A Grade. Size approx 6cm. Weight approx 213g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Strictly speaking, Apatite is the name of a group of minerals. It was named by A Werner in the mid-1780s. Who drew from a derivation of the Greek verb a?as??, ‘to deceive’, since Apatite has a history of incorrect identification by mineralogists.

Madagascar Apatite occurs in a beautiful range of blue, green, and yellow hues. It is also often UV reactive, which is called Fluorapatite.

The Madagascan deposits that polished material is made from are not extensive, nor is it available in large quantities. The natural material has a green to green-blue colour, while the polished material is heat treated to produce the rich intensive gemmy colour.
