Fantastic large specimen from a brand new deposit with limited availability. The material showcases an intense, rich orange with minimal intrutions/inclusions and veining (Biotite Mica, black Tourmaline). From Namibia. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 7cm. Weight approx 438g.

 

GEOLOGICAL INFO

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Calcite is colourless or white when pure, but may be of almost any colour owing to the presence of various different impurities.

Calcite is best recognized by its relatively low Mohs hardness (3) and its high reactivity with even weak acids, such as vinegar. Natural rough calcite feels smooth and ‘waxy’ to the touch.
