GEOLOGICAL

Chalcedony is a broad term describing microcrystalline forms of Silica.

Jasper is any type of Chalcedony which is opaque (ie solid, not translucent, light doesn’t pass through the material). Jasper has many different known varieties. Picture Jasper refers to a formation of Jasper that occurs in layers and patterns that are reminiscent of scenery or landscapes. It is found in different parts of the world, notably Africa, Australia and Brazil. Different locations produce uniquely different colours and patterns.
