Dark Blue Kyanite Natural Rough Piece. Natural dark blue crystals in blade formation, ranging from a very deep dark blue to a lighter, more opaque blue with some black, and some clear areas. Some with mica occlusions. Mostly chunky pieces.

From Karoi, Zimbabwe. Good Grade. Choose your weight.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Kyanite is an aluminosilicate mineral, found in aluminium-rich metamorphic pegmatites and sedimentary rock. It is most commonly blue but does occur in a few other colours more rarely, including clear, black, grey, yellow and green. It was named in 1789 by Abraham Werner for the Greek “cyanos” or “kyanos”, meaning blue.

Kyanite’s most distinctive trait is its strong anisotropic state, meaning it has two different hardness ranges, one along its length and one perpendicular.
