Labradorite Polished Large Gallet. Beautiful individually selected and hand polished Labradorite gallet, also known as a palm stone. From Tulear, Madagascar. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 8cm. Weight approx 166g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar, is famed for its colourful iridescent schiller in colours which range from blue, yellow, pink to purple and sometimes red.

Different twinning surfaces within the stone reflect different colours of light. It is so well known for these spectacular displays of colour that the phenomenon is known as “labradorescence.” Polishing Labradorite to uphold the chatoyancy is exceptionally difficult, with only a small amount of material yielding results.

Labradorite was named after the location it was first found, in Labrador, Canada. It is most often found in mafic igneous rocks, such as basalt, gabbro and norite.
