Malacolla Polished Freeform 5.5cm. Stunning polished Malachite and Chrysocolla (nicknamed ‘Malacolla’) specimen with rich vibrant colour and lovely patterns. Very Good to A Grade. Weight approx 100g. Size approx 5.5cm.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Chrysocolla has a cyan (blue-green) colour. Chrysocolla is a hydrous copper silicate usually found in association with Malachite and Azurite. Chrysocolla was first mentioned in 315 BC by Theophastus, Greek Peripatetic philosopher and pupil of Aristotle.

 

Malachite is a green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. It was one of the first ores used to produce copper metal, and was cited as early as 79CE by Pliny the Elder, who referred to the mineral as ‘Molochitus’. In 1661 the spelling was revised to ‘Malachite’ as it is known today.
