GEOLOGICAL

Tourmaline is the name for a group of crystalline boron silicate minerals identified by mineralogists in the 1800s. Its name comes from mid 18th century French, based on Sinhalese “t?ramalli”. Tourmaline is pyroelectric (becomes electrically charged when heated). It is also piezoelectric (creates electricity under pressure).

Tourmaline can be found occurring in more colours and colour combinations than any other gemstone in the world! It’s colours have many different causes. Manganese can create reds, pinks and yellows.

 

Feldspar is the name given to a group of silicate crystals that include Moonstone, Labradorite, Sunstone, Albite, Amazonite, and Orthoclase, among others.

 

Brecciated is the word used to describe naturally forming material that consists of mixed broken fragments cemented together. This generally occurs due to tectonic or seismic activity. The difference between breccias and conglomerates are that breccias consist of angular pieces, while conglomerates tend to have more rounded pieces.
