Small rough pieces of pink Rhodochrosite in matrix. Grade Medium – Good. Size approx 2-3cm. Weight approx 10-20g.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Rhodochrosite is a rare manganese carbonate mineral. Most highly prized specimens are rose pink to red in colour, but it occurs in shades of pink to cream and brown. Often, the manganese is replaced by iron, magnesium and/or calcium, which makes the bright pink colour become greyish, yellowish, or brownish.

It can be found banded in veins and fracture fillings. Extremely rarely, it forms beautiful translucent crystals. Rhodochrosite is Argentina’s national gemstone, where the ancient Incas were the first civilization to discover Rhodocrosite crystals and set them into jewellery.
