Selenite, Satin Spar Polished Wand 15cm

Description

Satin Spar Selenite Polished Wand. Lovely polished crystal wand, with a point at one end and rounded at the other. Perfect for healing, energy directing and grid activating. Size approx 15cm long, thickness varies slightly. Weight approx 80-90g.

Tip: Because Selenite is a very soft, fibrous crystal, you can expect little ‘nicks’, scratches and rough edges. Take a damp (not wet) cloth and gently wipe it down. This is a great way to smooth out little imperfections on your piece. Selenite can dissolve in water, so do this carefully and use water sparingly.

GEOLOGICAL

A note on names:

Selenite is the name for a transparent variety of Gypsum. The white fibrous variety of Gypsum that everyone calls Selenite is actually called Satin Spar. Since the names are now synonymous, we say ‘Clear Selenite’ and ‘Satin Spar Selenite’ to avoid confusion.

Satin Spar Selenite has a beautiful silky chatoyancy. This moon-like glow that moves along the surface of the crystal is how Selenite got its name, after the ancient Greek moon goddess, Sel?n?.

Gypsum occurs on every continent, and is the most common of all the sulfate minerals. It’s formed as an evaporative mineral, and frequently found in alkaline clay beds, evaporated seas and caves. It often occurs with other minerals such as copper ores, sulfides, and iron ores. Some specimens exhibit fluorescence or phosphorescence.

When Gypsum dehydrates severely, Anhydrite is formed. Interestingly, the process can reverse! When the Anhydrite is reintroduced to water in it’s environment, it reverts to Gypsum.
