Alluvial Black Tourmaline Specimen 6cm.

Lovely large alluvial black Tourmaline single crystal in Mercedes formation. It forms in a clay substrate and thus does not have the very shiny lustre of A-Grade Erongo material. But they are still lovely, mostly whole, and a cool addition to any collection! From Zimbabwe. Good Grade. Size approx 6cm. Weight approx 128g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Tourmaline is the name for a group of crystalline boron silicate minerals first identified in the 1800s. Its name comes from mid-18th century French, based on Sinhalese “t?ramalli”. Tourmaline has some awesome properties! It becomes electrically charged when heated (this is called pyroelectric). It is also piezoelectric (meaning it creates electricity under pressure).

Tourmaline occurs in more colours and colour combinations than any other gemstone in the world! The different colours have many different causes.
