ABOUT HORUS
Horus is one of the oldest Gods of Egypt and as such went through many transformations, absorbing other gods and their stories over time. As a result, he has a wide variety of associations and complex mythologies. The Eye of Horus is an important symbol in Egyptian religion that is rich in symbolism.
To begin with, Horus’s eyes consist of the sun, or the morning star, representing power; and the moon, or the evening star, representing healing. He watches protectively over people of the world both day and night. In one of his stories, his uncle Set cuts Horus’s one eye into pieces during their battle. The eye is later healed by Thoth (or Hathor in some versions), and comes to represent six senses (the five plus thought), protection, health and restoration.
In his falcon form, Horus can quickly sweep in, drawing near to people in times of trouble or doubt, while also flying far and wide, bringing vital information to Ra, the Father God.
